Lobby as icebreaking threshold
Despite the RISD Museum’s lobby being an open space intended for community use, there exists a barrier preventing individuals outside of the RISD community, particularly Providence residents, from feeling welcome. The current building design creates a perception of exclusivity, making it seem accessible only to RISD students. To address this issue, the ‘Intersection’ seeks to cultivate icebreaking moments within the lobby space. It aims to encourage encounters between people, enabling them to comfortably break the ice and extend invitations to others to explore the museum.
