Watchtower as a canvas for creation
Shape by Time transforms an abandoned Italian watchtower into an art residency where history, landscape, and creativity intersect. Once a site of vigilance, the tower becomes a canvas for imagination — a place to make, display, and reflect. The ground floor hosts a workshop rooted in the stone mass, while the upper floor opens as a gallery, extending the tower’s role from observation to cultural exchange. Surrounding circular structure inspired by natural geometries, offering spaces for retreat and inspiration. Former window-tunnels are reactivated as thresholds, leading visitors to mesh structures that extend around the tower. Accented in yellow, they contrast the permanence of stone with the vibrancy of creativity.
Respecting the historic structure while inviting new layers of experience, the watchtower becomes as a living framework shaped by time and open to creation.
